Cairns, Daintree and Atherton

Port Douglas is enough in itself to entice you up here. Add glorious rides along the Coral Sea and the Daintree, and you're in for a real treat.

We’ll pick up our steel horse in the earlier part of the day before it gets too hot and muggy. We’ll then have a look around Cairns before heading north to Port Douglas for lunch, on a road that that practically touches the Coral Sea. After lunch we’re off to visit Daintree and take a rainforest tour, or a crocodile river cruise, to see unique flora and fauna that only exists in this part of the world. This is as far north as you’ll want go on a road bike due to the gravel roads beyond Daintree.

On our second day we’re off to the Atherton Tablelands and its fantastic hill climb and winding roads. I get my mate who lives up there to lead the way on perfect riding roads that he’s found… roads only the locals like him know where they are.

Up on the Tablelands, there are some great restaurants for a delicious lunch, so we’ll definitely be doing that. Oh… and make sure you bring your swimming trunks and a towel, so we can join the backpackers and swim under the Milla Milla waterfall. You won’t want to leave there, that’s for sure. Sadly though, we will eventually have to leave to get those bikes back by the end of the day. At least we’ll have a great ride down the mountain and memories of two magnificent days of riding and all that we packed into them.
